Sanctuary at the Stocket

Capacity: 250 people seated

The Sanctuary is the main worship area in the Church, and was completely refurbished in 2015. Whilst retaining the key architectural features of the building, the pews were removed, new flexible seating was installed, the heating was upgraded and a new sound system was installed. This is a beautiful space with the blend of modern comfort and accessibility along with traditional architecture and historic stained glass windows in a building set in peaceful grounds. It is an ideal venue for events such as concerts and of course a perfect setting for a Church wedding. It can also be used for larger conference style events with other rooms in the halls available for breakout sessions.

The Sanctuary has a seating capacity of 250, with individual seats normally arranged theatre style, facing the raised Chancel area at the front. The seating can be adjusted - for example to create more space at the front for a musical performance by removing some rows. In the spaces around the central seated area are sets of tables and chairs to create a comfortable space for people to enjoy hot and cold drinks and snacks. There is also space for buggies, and seating can be quickly arranged to accommodate wheelchair users inclusively where they would like to sit.

At the rear of the Sanctuary is a small servery area with a sink, water boilers and facilities to serve teas, coffees and biscuits. There are generous supplies of cups and tea/coffee pots.

Upstairs, there is a gallery area which includes the pipe organ and sound equipment. This area is not normally included in any hires in order to protect the equipment and pipe organ.

The entrance vestibule retains most of its original character, with the addition of electrically operated sliding glass doors on the main entrance. There are coat hooks in the vestibule area for hanging up coats and hats.

There is an accessible toilet just off the vestibule area at the rear of the Sanctuary, and a further toilet at the front of the Sanctuary. In addition, for larger events, the Hall Toilets can be accessed down the stairs.

As the Sanctuary is our core worship space we like to ensure that any other activities there respect the space, and for this reason events there are normally supervised by representatives of the Congregation working alongside those organising the event.
